Itasca School District implements the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and provides
services that support the educational success of students.
The term “homeless children and youth” as defined by the McKinney-Vento Act means
individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence; and includes the
following:
- Share housing with others because of loss of housing, economic need or domestic
violence
- Live in a shelter or motel
- Live in a campground, park, car or abandoned building
- Are without a permanent address
Children who meet the federal definition of homeless will be provided a free appropriate public
education in the same manner as all other students of the District.
